Alia Shawkat has revealed Brad Pitt told her, ‘if you hang out with me, it happens’ in response to rumours they were dating.

She said: ‘[Brad] had no awareness of it at all. I was like, “You know everyone thinks we’re dating?” And he was, like, “I’m sorry. It happens. If you hang out with me, it happens.” He had no awareness of it at all.’

Alia also told how the story reached her family, including her grandmother, who was happy to see her in a magazine.

She said: ‘The other day I was at my grandmother’s house, my father’s mother. She’s been in this country for over thirty years and still barely speaks English. An Iraqi Muslim woman. She’s sitting there, watching her Turkish soap opera. And next to her is this old gossip magazine with Brad’s face, and my face in a small circle.

‘And it says, “Brad’s New Girl!” And then on the inside it’s old Instagram photos of me and friends at dinner. It was like, “ALL ABOUT ALIA.”‘

The Search Party star added she was ’embarrassed’ by the magazine but her grandmother just laughed.

Alia is set to appear in the forthcoming series The Old Man, which is based on Thomas Perry’s 2017 novel of the same name.

The project is centered around a retired CIA officer who becomes the target of an assassin and must protect himself from old and new threats.

The Old Man stars Jeff Bridges in its lead role, with Shawkat slated to portray a character named Angela.

The California native embodies writer Madelyn Pugh in the biographical drama feature, Being The Ricardos.

The flick sees Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz while they navigate a turbulent week of work on their iconic sitcom I Love Lucy.

Also appearing in the movie are J.K Simmons, Nina Arianda and Clark Gregg.
