Armed Forces Rememberance Day: Gov Ikpeazu seeks enganced welfare for fallen heroes’ families

Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has harped on the need for enhancement of welfares of families of the nation’s fallen heroes, as well as continued prayers for their families.

He stated that the nation’s leadership at various levels must put much efforts towards the welfare of service men, in terms of provision of equipment and other basic facilities.

Governor Ikpeazu, who spoke during the interdenominational church service marking the celebration of 2022 Armed Forces Rememberable Day held at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral in Umuahia, the State capital, maintained that the best way to celebrate the armed forces was for the Nigeria leadership to cater for the upbringing and upkeep of their families.

He was represented at the event by his Deputy, Rt. Hon Ude Oko Chukwu.

He further pointed out that it behoved on parents and stakeholders to do their best to minimize the level of criminality in the society by assisting government to address the menace of hard drug intake currently on the increase among youths in the country.

Ikpeazu described the Armed Forces Remembranance Day as a special event to remember men of the Nigerian Armed forces who laid their lives to maintain and protect the territorial integrity of the nation at various battle fields, as well as thank God for seeing their men still in service through perilous and critical times across the country.

He called for sustained prayers for God’s sustainence on them, and further promised that the present adminsitration would continue to sustain its welfare packages to members of the Nigerian legion in Abia State.

The Most Reverend Raphael Opoko, the Archbishop of Methodist church Nigeria, Umuahia Diocese, while delivering a sermon with the term “Lord give us Men of courage like David”, maintained that God blessed the country in its diversity so that the nation can be a great and formidable nation.

The Methodist priest appealed that the country’s leaders should do more to assuage the pains loved ones were experiencing following the death of their breadwinners, that sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation’s unity, as well as ensuring security of lives and property.

In their goodwill messages, the Chief of Staff, representing the Commander, 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Col. R. Agbir and the Chairman, Abia State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu (Rtd), appreciated the Abia State Government and the church for their prayers and support to the Armed Forces in reducing the myraid of security challenges across the country.
