Insecurity: Katsina: NSCDC arrests two suspects for drug peddling, cattle rustling

The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, on Wednesday, said it has arrested two suspects for alleged drug peddling and cattle rustling in the state.

The command said has in its custody the two suspects of which one was arrested by a vigilante group in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to a statement signed by the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer in the state, DSC Mohammed Tukur Abdara, one of the suspects identified as Abubakar Sani from Mai Kaho village in Jibia LGA, confessed to have participated in cattle rustling along with five other members of their gangs all armed with AK47 at Bugaje village in Jibia LGA.

The suspect also confessed to being in the picture of three persons abducted from Falale village by his gang members but chose not to notify the security operatives.

DSC Tukur said the suspect would be chargeed to while efforts are ongoing by security operatives in the state to arrest his accomplices who are on the run.

In the same vein, another suspect identified as Aminu Muazu from Yangora village in Bindawa LGA was arrested at Mani LGA by NSCDC operatives for allegedly having and selling illegal and substances on Tuesday.

During the raid, which led to his arrest, the following items were recovered from the suspect: 3 sachets with 19 pieces of Diazapham; 27 ropes of suspected cannabis; 96 number of Exols; 28 number of D5 tabs; and 4 capsules of tramadol.

During the preliminary investigation, the suspect also confessed to committing the offence and will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Katsina Command for further investigation and onward prosecution.

According to the statement, “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Katsina State Command under the able leadership of Commandant Mohammed Sanusi Bello psc+ in its effort to fight all form of crime and criminality had successfully arrested two individuals on the suspicion of cattle rustling and illegal drug selling.

“The first suspect identified as Abubakar Sani ‘M’ 20 years of Mai Kaho village of Jibia local government was arrested and handed-over to the Corps by members of Vigilantee Groups of Nigeria, on the suspicion of participating in cattle rustling.

“The suspect willingly confessed to have been involved in cattle rustling with a gang of five other criminals using sophisticated weapons (AK47) at Nasarawa bugaje village, Jibia local government.

“He also, confessed that he had a fore knowledge of the Abduction of 3 persons in Falale village by the same gang but failed to notify security operatives. While investigation is ongoing to arrest his accomplices, the suspect would be charged to for prosecution.

“The other suspect identified as Aminu Muazu ‘M’ 29 years of Yangora village of Bindawa local government was arrested in Mani local govt area by our operatives on the suspicion of being in possession and selling of illegal drug substances on 14th Septembers.

“During the arrest, the items found in possession of the suspect include: 3 sachets plus 19 pieces of Diazapham; 27 ropes of suspected cannabis; 96 number of Exols; 28 number of D5 tabs; and 4 capsules of tramadol. Preliminary investigation has been concluded and the suspect (who confessed to have committed the offence) will be handed over to NDLEA, Katsina Command for further investigation and prosecution.

“Commandant Bello is also using this opportunity to urge members of the general public to assist security agencies with accurate and prompt information on suspicious individuals or activities so as to effectively tackle the security challenges facing the state.

“The Commandant also warned criminals to stay off the state, as the Command will not relent in its effort toward tackling all forms of crimes and criminalities across the state and anyone caught breaking the law will be delt with, decisively.”
