Kirsty had received devastating news during Tuesday’s episode of The Block.

Cameras on the Channel 9 renovation show captured the moment the 34-year-old country singer learned her beloved grandmother had passed away.

‘As soon as Mum’s name flashed on the [phone] screen, I just knew [Nan had died],’ Kirsty told 9Now on Friday.

Kirsty told the website the couple didn’t ‘even realise what’s happening in the outside world’ during their time on the high pressure reality TV show.

‘I would never actually speak to my family during the week because we’d be so busy,’ said the musician.

The heartbreaking discovery meant that she and husband Jesse had to walk away from the job site for 24 hours to be with family.

The Block continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
