Jamila is a soulful singer with gentle but highly emotional vocals over airy melodious compositions. The Nigerian-American singer/songwriter adds a unique twist to her Afro-Soul and R&B sound.

She firmly confronts the human experience, from romance to mental health to personal identity, with her emotive singing voice and forward-thinking production.

Inspired by Sade, Miriam Makeba, Mary J. Blige, and Brenda Fassie’s music, as well as her nomadic childhood, she began mixing her home language Hausa into her music, transporting the listener to bridge the gap between Sub-Saharan drumming and Neo-soul melodies.
