Bose Ogulu, the mother of Grammy-winner Burna Boy, revealed that she insisted on adding her father’s first name to her surname because she didn’t want to be confused with another Idonije.
The revelation was made by the talent manager on Monday, January 16 at a dinner held at Freedom Park on Lagos Island to commemorate media, art, and culture executive Jahman Anikulapo’s 60th birthday.
While introducing Mama Burna, the host begged the former’s husband to allow her to be referred to as Bose Benson-Idonije, explaining that Bose didn’t like being addressed as Bose Idonije but insisted on adding her father’s first name to her surname.
Later, Bose explained that she insisted on being addressed as Bose Benson-Idonije before getting married because she didn’t want to be mistaken for another Idonije.
Mrs. Ogulu described the celebrant, who goes by the moniker Jahman, as a devoted friend and member of her family.
Mama Burna graduated from Queen’s College with a Bachelor of Arts in foreign languages and a Master of Arts in translation from the University of Port Harcourt.
She worked as a translator for the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce for many years.
