A former Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Olabode Adetoyi, has urged Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to develop a roadmap policy for agricultural production.
A statement said Adetoyi urged Tinubu to back the policy up with an Act of Parliament.
The former commissioner said the act of parliament should entail crop, livestock production policy and integrated production based on comparative advantage.
He emphasised training and re-training of youths in agriculture through colleges of agriculture, university of agriculture, faculty of agriculture, and ensuring that trainings were developed in local languages.
Olabode said, “I would like to urge His Excellency, Bola Tinubu, to return the commodity marketing boards for the uptake of products from farmers.
“The board will gather information on product demands and create efficient supply model for farm products across the country noting the comparative advantage of the country.”
“It will manage the exportation of produce through due process and ensure safety of produce through relevant MDAs.”
He added, “The board will revitalise the research institutes for different crops and livestock and create research institutes for each animal species.”
