Netizens lampoon Grammy Organisers for describing Wizkid, Rema as ‘up-and-coming artistes’

Organizers of Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy, is currently under serious fire from Nigerians who are raging on social media platforms.

Recall the Grammy Awards days ago, introduced three new categories which include Best African Music Performance, Best Pop Dance Recording, and Best Alternative Jazz Album to their 2024’s award show.

Taking to their social media page moments ago, the Academy shared some photos of some “up-and-coming black artist everyone should have on their radar” and both Nigerian afrobeat superstar, Wizkid and Mavin signee, Rema made the list.

This did not sit well with some Nigerians, especially Wizkid’s fans who considered it demeaning given the singer’s status as one of the most successful music artistes in Africa. They took to social media to lampoon the organizers for making such ridiculous post.

The ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner said that his only problem is that he has released too many hit songs throughout his career.

The Grammy-winning artiste stated this on Sunday night after he mounted the stage at the AfroNation 2023 concert in Miami, Florida.

Wizkid was trying to decide which of his songs to perform first for the audience, which is why he said that having too many hits was a challenge. In his words:

“I have only one problem, I got too many hits

Secondly, there’s no party like a Wizkid’s party

So if you know you are feeling me spiritually, lemme hear you say yeah yeah.”

He also went on to stir up the momentum of the crowd by saying that there is no party like a Wizkid party and his fans screamed in excitement.
