- Comedian, Destalker calls out his senior colleagues who doesn’t want his success in the industry.
- He mentioned the likes of Gordons and Basketmouth as people who are against him in the comedy business.
Renowned comedian Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, popularly known as Destalker, has recently taken a bold step by publicly addressing a simmering issue within the comedy industry – fatherism.
He voiced his concerns during a candid interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, which is hosted by the well-known media personality Nedu Wazobia and others.
Destalker didn’t hold back as he opened up about how his career progression in the comedy world has been deliberately hindered by some of his senior colleagues due to his outspoken stance against fatherism.
He didn’t hesitate to name two prominent comedians, Gordons and Basketmouth, as the primary individuals responsible for obstructing his path to success.
During the interview, Destalker questioned why he, a comedian who has consistently been awarded the title of “Best Comedian” for five years, hasn’t been able to secure sponsors for his shows.
He revealed that despite putting in effort and writing proposals, potential sponsors would often condition their support on his ability to secure the approval of his senior colleagues. This, according to Destalker, has been a major obstacle in his career.
Furthermore, Destalker recounted a peculiar incident involving Basketmouth back in 2015, when someone questioned their relationship. This incident serves as a testament to the complex dynamics at play within the comedy industry, where personal relationships can impact career trajectories significantly.
In his words:
“How can I win best comedian for five years and I do show no sponsor? Not that we didn’t write proposals, there are companies that agreed to put in but they’d say I will talk to some of your senior colleagues; that’s my problem.
“There are senior colleagues that have struck my name out in several ways. One, I don’t like fatherism; I know my enemy. I have been begging Gordons.
“Somebody called me one day and asked what I had with Basketmouth; I said nothing. He said, go and beg him. Because something happened in 2015.
“Your dream is to become successful, some people’s dream is to make sure you are not successful. When you’re not successful, they’ve achieved a goal.”
