  • She confessed that her heart was captivated by Rema’s infectious tune, ‘Runaway,’ even before the Singer himself reached out to her, proposed a fiery remix collaboration for ‘Calm Down.’

Prominent American singer and actress, Selena Gomez, openly shared her long-standing admiration for the Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Rema, even prior to their electrifying collaboration on the ‘Calm Down’ remix.

During the most recent episode of the VA 100 New York Podcast, Selena Gomez revealed that her heart was captured by Rema’s track ‘Runaway’ before the renowned “Rave Lord” personally reached out to her for a remix of ‘Calm Down.’

Gomez expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Rema, citing her affection for his personality, and she emphasized her desire to “just wanna take care of him.”

Gomez showered Rema with compliments for his down-to-earth nature, asserting that he is truly worthy of achieving boundless success on a global scale.

She said, “I actually fell in love with the song ‘Runaway’ before I fell in love with ‘Calm down.’ I literally was a fan of his. But it [remixing ‘Calm Down’] was all like kind of his idea.

“When I met him, I honestly was so impressed by his demeanor, how humble and how grateful he is for every moment. And, I just couldn’t pick someone else who deserves all this success in the world. He is so kind. I don’t know, I just wanna like take care of him [laughs].”

Rema’s Calm Down remix with Selena Gomez has spent 52 weeks as number one on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart.

It peaked at number three on the main chart, Billboard Hot 100, and reached number one on the Canadian Top Songs chart.

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ also entered into the Guinness World Record as the First No.1 Hit on The Official MENA Chart (the world’s first regional streaming chart).

‘Calm Down’ debuted at No. 1 when the MENA Chart was launched by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) on November 29, 2022.
