Customs, Huawei partner on modernisation project

The Nigeria Customs Service has expressed readiness to deploy some of Huawei’s latest products and solutions for use in its trade modernisation project.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the National Public Relations Officer of the service, Abduallahi Maiwada, after the Huawei Connect 2023 held in Shanghai, China.

Maiwada explained that the event which was themed, ‘Accelerating Intelligence for Shared Success”, brought together attendees, including government officials, business leaders, tech experts, partners, developers, and industry stakeholders worldwide.

The Federal Executive Council had in 2020, approved the concession of the $3.2bn automation project of NCS which was aimed at generating $176bn in revenue. However, the commencement of the project was delayed over a lingering litigation crisis between the parties involved in the project.

The Customs image maker reiterated that the use of information and communication technology for automation of customs services and data-sharing helps reinforce the member countries’ customs legal reforms and simplification of customs procedures and improve transparency and efficiency of customs services.

Miawada added that the event featured exhibitions that showcased the latest products and solutions from Huawei and its partners.

“These served as a platform to unveil some of the company’s latest technological advancements.” Maiwada added.

Speaking of her experience, Assistant Controller General of Customs in charge of ICT/Modernisation, Kikelomo Adeola, and other top officials of the service, said they were very enthusiastic about their participation in the Huawei Connect 2023 Shanghai.

“We enjoyed learning about the latest ICT trends and technologies and looked forward to deploying some of Huawei’s latest products and solutions for use in the NCS Trade Modernization Project. These activities provided the NCS delegation with the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and technologies in the ICT industry, especially as the Service is on the verge of consolidating its modernization operations.” The delegation concluded.
