Nigerian music sensation Davido set the internet abuzz when he confidently crowned himself the ‘King of Afrobeats’ in a recent video, highlighting his monumental influence on the African music scene.

The DMW Bigwig lit up his Instagram on a crisp October 21st, dishing out a sizzling video, capturing his recent sit-down he had with ABC News, where he painted a vivid picture of the universal allure of the Afrobeats genre.

In the clip, when crowned the “King of Afrobeats”, Davido gleefully exclaimed it was a taste of hard-earned glory, a sweet fruits of patience and a journey that kicked off during his salad days. He proudly trumpeted that he’s notched up respect and kudos in the western hemisphere.

When delving into his music style and way of life, the OBO Crooner explained that most of his tunes march to the beat of African culture, but his lifestyle and penchant for living it up align with Western vibes.

He mentioned that during his formative years, he had his ears tuned to Nigerian music trailblazers like 2face, Psquare, and D’banj. Simultaneously, he was grooving to the sounds of American rappers such as 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Nelly and Ludacris.

However, while in college, Davido said he made the life-changing call to return to his roots in Nigeria and hop on the booming Afrobeats bandwagon.
