Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah breaks multiple records, generates N122m in three days

Actress cum filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that her latest film A Tribe Called Judah has made 122 million naira, three days after its release in the cinemas.

Funke made the announcement in an Instagram post on Monday, December 18, where she also revealed that A Tribe Called Judah has become the biggest opening for a film released in 2023.

A Tribe Called Judah hit the cinemas on December 15, after its premiere at the Imax Cinemas on December 10.

The film has also beaten Funke’s previous movies Omo Ghetto: The Saga and Battle on Buka Street to become the actress’ biggest opening film and also the number one overall film in Nigeria and West Africa.

While speaking on her latest achievement, Funke expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her, with special thanks to the cast and crew of the movie.Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah breaks multiple records, generates N122m in three days

She wrote:

“Thank you Lord!! Thank You Nigeria.

“I am grateful for the record-breaking journey of ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ in Nigeria and West Africa. #1 movie! Thanks for making it the biggest opening for Funke Akindele, the top Nollywood weekend. To the cast and crew members of this great movie, I say THANK YOU!! We made a movie!! This is definitely an ultimate cinematic triumph of 2023! If you haven’t seen make sure you make it a date this week to see the biggest movie in Nigeria.

Actress and co-star of the film, Juliana Olayode also hailed Funke Akindele as “Box Office Queen” in the comment section of the post. She wrote:

“If e choke you go know!!!!! This one choke!!!! Evidence dey!!!!! BOX OFFICE QUEEN FOR A REASON…. This is grace, this is the hand of God!!!!! Oyaaaaa #1billiongeng let’s gooooooooooooooo.”

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and Funke, the film tells the story of a family of boys, who decide to rob a mall to raise money for their mother’s hospital bill. However, on getting there, they are faced with armed robbers.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the movie at the premiere, Funke noted that it was dedicated to her late mum, Dr Adebanjo Akindele. She said:

“The story is so dear to my heart. It has a part of my late mum in it, and it represents the struggles faced by many single parents and mothers in society.”

The film also stars Nse Ikpe-Etim, Jidekene Achufusi, Nosa Rex, Uzee Uzman, Timini Egbuson, Tobi Makinde, Uzor Arukwe and Ebele Okaro.
