Nigerian songstress turned filmmaker Tiwatope Savage has said that she became a musician because she had a crush on a “guy” who was always around musicians.
Tiwa said this in a recent interview with MTV Live while promoting her latest movie project Water and Garri.
According to Tiwa Savage, acting was her first love before music.
She said:
“I’ve always wanted to do acting. Acting was one of my first love before music. I got into music because I had a crush on a guy and he was always around the musician so I said ‘yeah, forget acting and just go into music.’”
Produced by Unbound Studios and its subsidiary JM Films, Water and Garri was shot in Cape Coast, Ghana.
It got its name from ‘Water and Garri’, a music EP Tiwa released in 2021.
Tiwa wrote and performed the film’s original soundtrack and is an executive producer through her Everything Savage company.
She is cast as a fashion designer with a budding career in the US who returns to her home in Africa to confront the guilt she left behind.
Meji Alabi directed from a script by Comfort Emmanuel, with Unbound’s Jimi Adesanya producing.
Alabi and Adesanya also serve as executive producers, along with Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna.
Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting and Jemima Osunde also star in the film.
Tiwa Savage won’t be the first successful musician to reveal he first love wasn’t music. Barely two weeks ago, popular Nigerian rapper, Zlatan Ibile revealed that his dream career was to be a football player.
The ‘Zanku’ crooner said he wanted to play for La Liga giants, Barcelona, after failing at school.
Zlatan Ibile explained that he never had the intention of being a musician, stressing that he stumbled into music.
In an interview with Echo Room, Zlatan said he picked interest in music after one of his friends played a song he recorded for him.
