Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has stirred significant attention online with his recent visit to the family of the late Nollywood actor, John Paul Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, to offer his condolences.
The former Governor of Anambra State was joined by Kenneth Okonkwo, a Nollywood actor turned politician.
During the visit, Obi, in video posted, also signed the condolence register. In a poignant scene, he was seen comforting his wife while tenderly cradling Junior Pope’s three sons, enveloping them in his embrace.
Sharing photos and video clip from the condolence visit, Okonkwo, who was the former spokesperson of the Labour Party presidential campaign council, captioned on his X handle:
“HE Peter Obi arrived at the residence of John Paul Odonwodo Junior Pope, to pay his condolences to his family over the sad, and untimely departure of their child, brother, husband and father. He consoled his mother, Mrs Maria Odonwodo, the widow, Jennifer, and his children.”

The movie star was buried in his hometown Ikpogwu Ukehe in Nsukka, Enugu State on Friday.
The body of 43-year-old Junior Pope arrived his village in the early hours of Friday followed by a funeral service at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe.
After a brief sermon, the officiating priest prayed for the family of the deceased, adding that “the lord gives and the lord taketh.”
Junior Pope’s family, friends and colleagues could not hold back tears as his body, laid in a white casket, was lowered to the ground in his compound after the church service.
