  • Nollywood stars, en route to a high-profile event, unleashed a torrent of complaints about the dismal state of Imo State airport, directing their ire at Governor Uzodinma.
  • Their frustration was palpable as they lambasted the Governor for the airport’s poor conditions, turning the spotlight on what they deemed an unacceptable neglect of infrastructure.
  • In a new twist, Ejike Asiegbu, who was also seen in the video tirade, stepped forward to issue a public apology on behalf of his fellow actors

Nollywood Veteran, Ejike Asiegbu, has issued a heartfelt apology following a controversial video that called out the administration of Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State.

This comes in the wake of a blistering critique by actress Uche Nnanna-Maduka, who recently released a scathing video targeting the governor over a severe power outage at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.

In the two-minute footage, Uche Nnanna-Maduka did not hold back, delivering a series of hard-hitting remarks that openly shamed Uzodinma’s administration.

She captured the bleak, pitch-black scenery of the airport’s arrival terminal, painting a vivid picture of the chaos and frustration that passengers experienced.

With visible indignation, she lamented the dire situation, pointing out that passengers were forced to collect their luggage outdoors due to the complete lack of lighting in the baggage claim area.

The actors spotted in the video include Ejike Asiegbu, Fred Amata, Keppy Ekpenyong, Gloria Nobert Young, and Grace Amah.

They had visited the state for an event hosted by Lucky Ejike Chukwu, a former African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in the 2019 elections.

In response to the uproar, Oguwuike Nwachuku, the chief press secretary to Governor Uzodinma, penned a scathing newspaper article. In it, he described Uche Nnanna-Maduka’s comments as a “deliberate ploy to insult the governor,” suggesting that she might have been hired to make such inflammatory remarks.

Ejike Asiegbu swiftly countered Nwachuku’s assertions, condemning them as “uncharitable” and an example of “unprofessional conduct.”

He defended Nnanna-Maduka and her colleagues, emphasizing that their frustrations were genuine and not part of any orchestrated attempt to malign the governor.

However, on Thursday, Asiegbu, in a statement reported online, extended an olive branch, issuing an apology for the “scandalous” video on behalf of his colleagues.

He expressed regret for the controversy it sparked, acknowledging the need for a more respectful discourse while still drawing attention to the pressing issues at the airport.

His words,

“I most respectfully apologise on behalf of my colleague Uchenna Maduka to my friend, brother, elder statesman, and governor, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Hope Uzodimma for the embarrassment this video may have caused him,” he said.

“While I do not come from Imo state, I am married to a wonderful and loving wife from Imo state. Besides, we Abia state people were part of the old Imo state and so would always want the very best for Imo state and its people because we are all brothers and sisters.

“Let me state for the records that we are men and women of honour and integrity. We are not swayed by apples and carrots as Mr. Oguwike has maliciously adduced.”
