Afrobeats singer Omah Lay opens up on the difficulties he face in the music industry.

In an interview with Amazon Music, he expressed his feelings of not being loved and acknowledged by the media.

Omah Lay revealed that he often escapes into a fantasy world to cope with this “sad reality.”

He credited his fans, family, and team for their support but emphasized the challenges he often face from the media and industry gatekeepers.

Omah Lay also shared his experiences as a Nigerian traveling abroad, highlighting the difficulties and mistreatment he encounters due to his Nigerian passport.

He noted that his treatment changes once immigration officers recognize him as the artist Omah Lay.

“I have my fans, family and team but I don’t feel loved especially by the media and the people that call themselves the gatekeepers,” he said.

“This is something I’ve never talked about. I’m that artist that lives in a fantasy world. I just live in my head 90 per cent of the time.”

Travelling especially being a Nigerian and having the Nigerian passport, I have just seen the cruelty of the world so much.

“The immigration officers often maltreat me once they see the Nigerian passport until they realise that I’m Omah Lay that’s when the treatment changes.”

Omah Lay had announced break from music few months ago.

The ‘Understand’ crooner took to his Instagram story to make the announcement as he informed his fans not to expect new music from him anytime soon. Omah Lay wrote:

“I am not giving you new music anytime soon.”

He didn’t disclose the reason for his break from music. However, in another post, the singer stated;

“I need a little more love.”
