Director Jack’eneth Opukeme sheds light on the underlying themes and messages in his film, “Farmer’s Bride“.

During a press screening in Lagos, Opukeme shared his insights with journalists, highlighting the complexity of human nature.

Drawing inspiration from Ola Rotimi’s “The Gods Are Not to Blame”, Opukeme emphasized that people’s reactions can be unpredictable when faced with difficult situations.

The director noted that the tragic events in the film could have been avoided if the protagonist, Funmi, hadn’t been forced into a marriage against her will.

Opukeme stressed that the film aims to convey the importance of individual autonomy and the consequences of our actions.

In his words, “Humanity is complex. You can’t control my reaction after putting me in a tight corner. I hope people get the message that the monster we made is what will hunt us tomorrow. The message of the film is that if we had just left aJim central character alone, a lot of things wouldn’t have happened.”

The movie star, in a recent podcast with media personality, Chinasa Anukam, recalled how he had taken it upon himself to rewrite a script provided to him on a movie set, and the subsequent confrontation he faced regarding his actions.

Jim mentioned that he had the opportunity to be on the set of the blockbuster movie “One Dollar,” which featured and starred some of the biggest names in the movie industry.

According to the him, he was given a role spanning 4-5 scenes, where his character was required to convincingly portray a junkie.

Jim Iyke said he expressed his dissatisfaction with the way his lines were originally written in the script, as they did not accurately capture the behavior of a junkie.

Given his background in studying Psychology, he took it upon himself to rewrite the lines, ensuring a more authentic portrayal of a junkie’s behavior.

He added that, the movie director confronted him about his script revision, asked him when was the last time he had consumed weed, as he perceived the actor’s portrayal of the junkie character to be remarkably authentic and convincing.
