- Popular activist Deji Adeyanju has confirmed the release of singer and social media sensation Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington.
- He was arrested and detained by the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria police in Abuja.
- Adeyanju, who is also a lawyer also acknowledged the efforts of popular activist Omoyele Sowore and another legal counsel, Stan Alieke, in ensuring Speeddarlington’s release.
Musician and social media sensation Darlington Okoye aka Speed Darlington has been released on bail from police custody after spending five days in detention.
His lawyer Deji Adeyanju announced this on X on Tuesday night.
Adeyanju earlier said his client was arrested in Lagos last Friday and then transferred to Abuja.
According to him, Speed Darlington’s detention stemmed from a formal complaint filed by singer Burna Boy. He was accused of defaming and cyberstalking the Grammy Award winner.
In his post on X, Adeyanju appreciated those who contributed to the singer’s release and commended the police for their professionalism. He wrote:
“Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today.”

Speed Darlington, in a video made weeks ago, asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammys for his album Twice As Tall, taunting him over his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Shortly after, Speed Darlington who was earlier declared missing before reports of his arrest, was spotted in a video that surfaced online.
The surfaced video showed the music star in handcuffs as he was being led away by some men.
