Eedris Abdulkareem talks too much, nobody respects him – Timaya

Afrobeats artist Timaya has shared his thoughts on his public persona and relationships within the music industry.

During an interview with Naija FM, Lagos, Timaya was compared to veteran singer Eedris Abdulkareem, and in reaction, he highlighted their differences in communication style, stating that he doesn’t talk to much, and doesn’t behave like him.

Timaya emphasized his approach to earning respect through self-respect and not seeking to intimidate others.

During their conversation, the host asked: “You and Eedris Abdulkareem are among the artists that people are mostly afraid of picking a fight with.”

Timaya inferred: “I don’t talk like Eedris. I don’t behave like him…. Nobody is afraid of him because he talks too much. He has always been a talkative.

“I don’t even want people to be afraid of me. I respect myself so that people will respect me.”

He also discussed his past relationship with Eedris Abdulkareem, describing it as a professional connection between a boss and apprentice.

Timaya acknowledged Abdulkareem’s contribution to his success story but clarified that they don’t have a personal relationship or ongoing communication.

He said, “I have never had any problem with Eedris. It was just a relationship of the boss and apprentice. I don’t even think he knows my name at that time. I only gave him shutout because he was part of my success story. We don’t have any reason to communicate. When I was serving in his band, he didn’t had any reason to build a relationship with me. When people are serving you don’t act like you’re tolerating them, treat them like family because you don’t know tomorrow.”

Timaya took a dig at Abdulkareem for lambasting Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, days ago. The ‘Plantain Boy’ crooner also reminded his fans that Abdulkareem mistreated him when he was his backup singer.

The dancehall crooner advised Abdulkareem to go get a job while revealing he disregarded people who worked with him. Timaya tagged the ‘Jaga Jaga’ crooner dirty Igbo smoker.
