Sanya completes attempt for world’s largest sandal

Liz Sanya, a British-Nigerian shoe designer, has completed her attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest sandal.

The massive pink clog measures 3.156 meters in width and 8.147 meters in length.

The 72-hour event took place at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, and was attended by several celebrities, including Pheelz, Mayorkun, Korty EO, and P.Prime.

Sanya began designing the sandal on January 2, 2025, after receiving confirmation from Guinness World Records, and ended it on January 4th, 2025.

The current record for the largest sandal is held by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo, with a sandal measuring 7.45 meters long and 3.09 meters wide. Sanya’s attempt is currently under review by Guinness World Records.

She expressed gratitude to her supporters and noted that she chose to attempt the record in Nigeria due to her personal connection to the country.

She wrote:

“I’ll never be able to put into words what any of this means to me. None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision.

“Ibadan is where I was born. Lagos is where I was inspired. It was only right to come back home and prove it. 1 world record to beat, within 72hrs.”

Following her win, an Irish chef Alan Fisher, who resides in Japan, smashed not one but two Guinness World Records for the lengthiest solo cooking marathon.

Fisher achieved an unprecedented feat by continuously cooking for an astounding 119 hours and 57 minutes, eclipsing the previous record of 93 hours and 11 minutes, which was set earlier this year by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.

He also broke the record for the longest baking marathon category, as he diligently baked for an impressive 47 hours and 21 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 31 hours and 16 minutes

Hilda Baci reacted after losing Guinness world record to Irish Chef.

She wrote:

”Huge congratulations to Alan Fisher! 119hrs 57mins is a huge achievement, and I wish him all the best as the new world record holder.”
