Top Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun, aka AY, found himself thrust into the middle of a vicious, orchestrated scandal involving May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, and he wasn’t about to let it slide.
The drama erupted after the pair, who had recently traveled to London alongside their co-stars to promote AY’s highly anticipated film, The Waiter, were dragged into a web of scandal by the internet.
A seemingly innocent photo and video clip shared by the duo showed them aboard a plane, wearing matching ‘The Waiter” branded sweaters, paired with color-coordinated trousers.
What should have been a simple promotional moment quickly spiraled into a full-blown, fabricated scandal when that very post was twisted into an AI-generated video of them supposedly kissing, igniting a firestorm of gossip and outrage.
In an explosive Instagram post, AY unleashed his fury, lambasted the faceless individuals behind this malicious campaign to tarnish his name. He blasted those who had made it their life’s work to link him with every female celebrity he worked with, no matter how innocent the connection.
AY took the opportunity to drag up his previous run-in with these scandal-mongers, specifically referenced the false rumors that linked him to BBNaija’s Alex.
He openly addressed the damage caused by these fabricated lies, pointed out how Alex had been wrongly accused of dating him and how the fallout from that scandal still haunted her today. AY challenged the scandal peddlers to put their AI skills to meaningful use instead of weaponizing technology to smear reputations
