Herbert Wigwe’s sudden death in a helicopter crash on February 9, 2024, near the Nevada border in California, sent shockwaves through the corporate world. The crash claimed not only his life but also those of his wife, Doreen, their first son, Chizi, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group).

Since then, the Wigwe family has reportedly been mired in bitter legal battles over his estate, a struggle that Joyce said has unraveled the fabric of their once-strong family ties.

Speaking at the memorial event marking a year since the crash, Joyce did not hold back. Her voice carried both grief and quiet fury as she recounted the betrayal by those she believed to be confidants.

The fallout, she said, had not only deepened the family’s wounds but had also taken a severe toll on their elderly parents, whose hearts were now heavy with sorrow.

In a chilling account, Joyce described a visit to their hometown, where those she accused of betrayal allegedly treated the family as strangers, refused to even acknowledge the family’s presence at a gathering.

The tension reached a breaking point during the memorial, with Joyce alleging that her brother, Emeka, was physically assaulted.

She also criticized the unsettling display of force at the event, particularly surrounding her late brother’s daughter. According to Joyce, Tochi arrived in a convoy of over ten security vehicles, a move she suggested was less about safety and more about making a statement.
