- Osun’s political battlefield has erupted with fresh controversy as a building development scandal, fueled by the opposition, throws Davido’s billionaire father into the storm.
- The man credited with securing Governor Adeleke’s election victory now reportedly faces damning allegations from the APC.
- The opposition claims he is the true power behind Osun’s government, allegedly branding him the unseen hand controlling the state.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly accused Dr. Deji Adeleke, billionaire businessman, brother to Governor Ademola Adeleke, and father of music star Davido, of orchestrating a large-scale contract racketeering scheme and mismanaging public funds.
In a statement signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, APC’s Director of Media & Information, the party was said to have alleged that Dr. Adeleke has positioned himself as the real force behind the Osun State government, allegedly using his family’s influence to secure and control high-value contracts.
At the center of the controversy is a borehole project scandal. The APC is believed to have claimed that Adeleke was awarded multiple contracts to drill boreholes across selected wards in the state, with each contract running into a staggering N14 million.
The party reportedly insists many of these projects were either left uncompleted or highly inflated. By contrast, the APC maintains that similar boreholes, fully equipped, were executed for less than N2 million during the tenure of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
APC also allegedly painted a picture of Osun’s leadership as a family-run empire, claimed that Dr. Adeleke operates as the “unofficial Governor-General,” while the governor’s elder sister, Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, acts as the de facto “Governor-in-Charge of Administration.” Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke, according to the APC, has been reduced to a mere figurehead, mockingly labeled the “Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment.”
Calling for a thorough investigation, the APC is said to be demanding that anti-corruption agencies probe what it describes as a web of financial irregularities and questionable contract awards under the current administration.
The statement reads in part;
“The cases of Governor Adeleke’s family members and officials using their closeness to government and privileged positions to corner undeserved contracts against extant laws abound.
“Dr Deji Adeleke (the governor’s brother and father of the popular singer, Davido) has been entangled in this web of contract racketeering as his name has surfaced severally in the controversial borehole projects allegedly installed in selected wards in the state.
“He was alleged to have secured a borehole project for N14 million, many of which ended not being built. The similar borehole projects, but with all the ancillary facilities, were built in the health centres rehabilitated under our administration for less than N2 million each.
“It is painful that imaginary and audio borehole projects were allegedly superintended by Dr Deji Adeleke for insanely N14 million while similar projects, which are still functioning till today, were built for less than N2 million each during the administration of Oyetola.
“It is not a gainsaying that Dr Deji Adeleke has been operating behind the scene as the unofficial Governor-General of the state; Mrs Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, the governor’s elder sister has secured the role of the Governor-in-Charge of Administration for herself while the Governor who was elected has been titular and ridiculously playing the role of a Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment to the consternation of the right-thinking members of the society. The situation is that bad in our state.”
