Veteran Nollywood actress Tina Mba has urged the younger generations to prioritise their careers over marriages that may hinder their professional growth.
Speaking on the YouTube show Lights, Camera – It’s My Turn, Mba stressed the importance of making informed choices when balancing career and marriage, particularly in the entertainment industry.
Drawing from personal experience, the mother of two warned against ignoring red flags in relationships.
“He met you as an actor, married you as an actor, and there was no talk of leaving your job. Then suddenly, after marriage, he tells you to quit,” she said.
She added, “The signs are always there. Don’t ignore them. Watch him, watch her. You need to discuss with the person.”
To protect one’s career, Tina Mba recommended legal documentation to ensure mutual understanding.
“If need be, you need to sign an undertaking that you would not make me leave my career. Did he leave his job?” she asked rhetorically.
The actress concluded by encouraging those facing unsupportive relationships not to settle.
“There are so many people in this world. If this didn’t work, another may work. You will meet a soulmate, someone who will be supportive. Just be true to yourself,” she said.
