Kunle Afolayan opens 115-seater cinema in his name

Nollywood trailblazer and visionary filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has once again raised the bar for the Nigerian film industry. Not with a movie, but with a cinema named after himself.

In a celebratory post on his photo and video sharing platform, Instagram, Afolayan announced the birth of “The Kunle Afolayan Cinema”, a 115-seater movie theatre that is now part of his expanding creative empire.

The filmmaker shared a video of the cinema’s interior and exterior, offering fans and followers a first look at the sleek facility.

In his caption, Kunle Afolayan gave special thanks to businessman Seyi Vodi, writing:

“It shall be called The Kunle Afolayan Cinema for the great works he has done in the movie and entertainment industry. It is a 115-seater cinema. Thank you @seyivodi.”

The announcement was met with an outpouring of love from fans and industry colleagues.

Fellow actor Muyiwa Ademola dropped heart emojis, while actor Femi Adebayo congratulated him with the affectionate words, “Congratulations omoya.”

Kunle Afolayan is no stranger to breaking boundaries. From The Figurine to Anikulapo, his filmography speaks volumes of his dedication to elevating Nigerian cinema. But his latest feat is more than just a personal milestone, it’s part of a much bigger mission to build a fully integrated film ecosystem in Nigeria.

This unveiling comes just three months after he launched the KAP Film Village and Resort on April 12, located in Igbojaye, Oyo State. The massive 60-acre facility includes film studios, training centres, and accommodation for cast and crew. It’s a one-stop hub for film production, tourism, and education.

With the addition of this new cinema, Afolayan is now covering all ends of the movie business, from storytelling and production to distribution and exhibition.
