Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has taken a public swipe at his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, following the latter’s online warning about the dangers associated with his fearless activism.
The clash between the outspoken influencer and his legal counsel played out on social media after Adeyanju posted a cautionary message on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, expressing deep concern for VeryDarkMan’s well-being.
Adeyanju had written:
“If anything happens to you today, everyone has moved on by tomorrow. We only overrate ourselves, Nigerians don’t rate anybody. I have told this guy this thing repeatedly but he no dey hear word.”

He warned that excessive risk-taking, particularly by activists like VeryDarkMan, could result in harm that would be quickly forgotten by the public they sought to serve. The statement, though likely intended to be protective, did not sit well with his client.
In a swift video response shared across his Instagram platform, VeryDarkMan expressed shock and disappointment, slamming Adeyanju for what he described as “cowardly” behaviour.
“I am very disappointed in Deji Adeyanju, my own lawyer… this is coward talk. If it was from someone else, I’d understand. But not from you.”, He said.
He accused the rights advocate of spreading fear and discouragement instead of inspiration, emphasizing that great figures throughout history—such as Jesus Christ and even the Pope—were once crucified or killed and eventually forgotten, yet still stood for something meaningful.
VeryDarkMan argued that activists should not be dissuaded by fear of being forgotten or harmed.

The rift has sparked a flurry of online commentary, with some Nigerians siding with Adeyanju’s precautionary stance, while others back VeryDarkMan’s rejection of public discouragement, especially from someone within his trusted legal circle.
