Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has broken her silence over circulating rumours that she is barred from dating due to a clause in her Roc Nation management contract under American rap mogul, Jay-Z.
The claim, which began circulating on social media, originated from a podcaster who alleged in a viral video that the Mavin Records star was contractually restricted from having a boyfriend or starting a family during the five-year duration of her Roc Nation agreement.
“Ayra Starr isn’t allowed to have a boyfriend or start a family during her five years contract with Roc Nation,” the podcaster said in the video which has gained traction on X (formerly Twitter).

The allegation stirred backlash online, prompting many users to question its authenticity and criticize the supposed terms, which they described as invasive.
However, Ayra Starr responded to the claim on Monday, July 29, 2025, by quoting the video with a sarcastic remark that dismissed the rumour outright. She wrote:
“Does Ayra Starr know about this?”

The award-winning singer, who recently became the youngest African female artist to perform on the BET Awards stage, further clarified her stance by reposting a tweet from another X user that read:
“Them lie on top your head for broad daylight.”
The repost further reinforced that the viral claim was false and had no basis in her contractual reality.
Ayra Starr, born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, signed an international management deal with Roc Nation in early 2024 while remaining under Mavin Records in Nigeria. Roc Nation, owned by American music mogul Jay-Z, manages global artists including Rihanna, J. Cole, and Megan Thee Stallion.
The incident adds to the growing list of viral falsehoods celebrities often face in the digital age, with Ayra Starr once again showing grace and humour in addressing unverified speculation about her private life.
