Nollywood actor and singer Jigan Babaoja has cried out over alleged threats to his life after his personal phone number was leaked online.
In an Instagram post, the 42‑year‑old said the threats are connected to an ongoing controversy surrounding a WhatsApp group reportedly formed after the death of late singer Mohbad. Tagging the Nigeria Police Force in his appeal for protection, Jigan wrote:
“This is how they start! This is pure bullying all because you want to prove a point! You let my personal number out to your people to keep calling and sending threats to me! Exactly what was done to the late Mohbad!”
Vowing not to be silenced, Yoruba movie star continued:
“Instead of letting you kpai me like you kpai Mohbad, I will start by using all the things in my surroundings to kick against oppression and bullying! All these numbers will regret ever coming to this world! The number of threats clearly shows they will attack me even on the streets! But for the street, I’m fully prepared and aware!”
Jigan’s outcry comes days after media personality VeryDarkMan alleged that he was part of a WhatsApp group created by actress Iyabo Ojo in the wake of Mohbad’s death. VDM claimed that the group allegedly included other celebrities like Tonto Dikeh, Dre DMW, and Sam Larry’s brother, Olamilekan Eletu.
While Jigan initially challenged VeryDarkMan to release the full chat logs for public judgment, he later declared he owed no one an explanation. He posted:
“So far Nigerians ain’t asking for the evidences no more! Something you paid 20m to achieve and you can’t post it no longer! Are we still in the slavery era? Na leg dey pain me not my brain! We shall see to the end of this! Thank you Allah, Olujo Mimo.”
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, sparking nationwide protests and renewed conversations about bullying and intimidation in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
