Award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has penned a warm birthday message to his younger brother, actor Aremu Afolayan, in a touching show of sibling love that comes less than a year after the pair ended a long-running public feud.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday evening, August 2, Kunle shared a photo of the celebrant with the caption:

“Happy birthday to my darling brother Olumide Aremu @aremumimostwantedlikecrudeoil. May the good Lord continue to guide your path 🙏.”

The celebrant himself took to his official Instagram page to share a photo of himself. Aremu captioned the post:

”Omo oni Baiday nki yi o 🎂.”

The birthday tribute is one of the clearest signs yet that the brothers have put the past behind them.

Kunle and Aremu’s strained relationship was well-known in Nollywood circles. Their rift dated back to 2018 when Aremu publicly criticised their late father, filmmaker Ade Love, for living in poverty despite his fame. Kunle responded by calling Aremu “stupid,” and the exchange deepened their divide.

The tension escalated in 2023 when Aremu posted a profanity-laced video complaining about not receiving help, nor a car from the family. The video was later deleted but widely discussed online.

It wasn’t until November 2024, during the wake‑keep for their late mother Omoladun Afolayan, that the brothers finally reconciled.

The emotional reunion saw Aremu publicly apologise to Kunle, acknowledging his wrongs and expressing regret for dragging family matters into the public eye.

Kunle, in turn, spoke about his role as a father figure to Aremu due to their 10-year age gap and emphasised the importance of family unity, sentiments that deeply moved those in attendance.
