When your parents are public figures, it is almost impossible to keep your private life away from the spotlight. That has been the reality for Tolu Odukoya, the first daughter of the late Pastors Taiwo and Bimbo Odukoya of Fountain of Life Church. Her life has always been of interest to many Nigerians, not only because of her powerful family legacy but also because of her own work as a pastor, worship leader and speaker. In recent times, however, conversations around her marriage and eventual separation have made her name trend beyond the pulpit and into mainstream entertainment discussions.

How it Started

Elder sister to actor cum pastor, Jimmy Odukoya, Tolu’s love story began like a scene out of a Nollywood romance. She met her future husband, Olumide Ijogun, while they were still in secondary school at Greensprings School in Lagos. They grew from classmates to close friends, and then to high school sweethearts. Their relationship matured over the years and in November 2012 they decided to take it to the next level.

The couple had their traditional engagement and then their white wedding at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos. The ceremony was a major society event attended by family, friends, church members and dignitaries. The reception took place at The Haven Events Centre in GRA Ikeja. Tolu wore a lace Pronovias bridal gown for the church service and later changed into a Deola Sagoe creation for the reception. The wedding had all the details of elegance, with a bridal train, elaborate decorations and the glamour expected of a union that involved one of Nigeria’s most prominent Christian families.

After their wedding, Tolu and Olumide welcomed three children together. Their first daughter was born in September 2013 in the United States. A few years later in July 2018 they welcomed their second daughter. In June 2020 the couple celebrated the arrival of their son. On social media, Tolu often shared pictures of her growing family, blending ministry life with motherhood and presenting the image of a loving, grounded home.

Beyond her role as a pastor, Tolu often spoke openly about marriage. In sermons, conferences and online videos, she was known for giving practical and sometimes bold advice to couples. One of her more famous statements described sex as a form of “currency” in marriage, urging couples to keep intimacy alive and avoid letting that bond drift outside the home. She also spoke about forgiveness, humility and the importance of not competing with one’s partner. Many couples admired her straightforward advice and saw her as someone who could connect spiritual values with the realities of married life.

When Things Fell Apart

Despite the picture of stability, things were not as perfect as they seemed. Tolu, on October 3, 2025, later confirmed publicly that she and Olumide had separated. She described the end of her marriage as deeply painful, comparing it to a kind of death. For her, it was not just a private matter but an emotional journey that was intensified by the grief she was already facing from the multiple losses in her family. Between 2021 and 2023, she lost her stepmother, her father’s twin sister and eventually her father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya. These experiences compounded the struggles she was facing in her personal life.

In her own words, the separation happened due to circumstances beyond her control. She was clear in explaining that separation does not always mean one partner is bad. She called her former husband a good man, but she also admitted that sometimes two people simply cannot continue together even when love was once strong.

Finding Strength in Faith

Tolu has since leaned heavily on her faith and her calling as a pastor to carry her through. She admitted there were times she felt unqualified to minister because of her personal struggles, yet she believes her story is part of her testimony. With the support of her siblings and her late father’s encouragement before he passed, she has continued to grow in her role as a leader. She uses her experience not to hide from the public but to show that even pastors and public figures are human, navigating challenges and relying on God for strength.
