Female Nigerian Singers Whose Collaboration Might Send The Media Into A Frenzy

Celebrity Gig

In music industries all over the world, collaboration matters. It is a strong tool for tapping into a wider audience, yet, we don’t see enough of it amongst the female singers in the Nigerian music industry. For some, they believe it is because female singers, unlike their male counterparts, do not get along very well, while some also believe that it is a matter of who is ‘Queen’ and others’ refusal to acknowledge the ‘crown.’

For an industry with big names like Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Niniola, Tems, Teni, Ayra Starr,  and more female superstars, it is somewhat wasteful to not get at least a hit banger from a female link-up once every year.

On WN Picks, we looked at some female Nigerian singers whose collaboration might send the media into a frenzy, positively or negatively.

The female artists listed on this WN Picks are established artists in their own right, with a couple of hit songs in their name.

Niniola and Teni

Considering the nature of their relationship, it is absolutely surprising that the two do not have a song together just yet. They are blood sisters and the question on everybody’s lips is ‘how hard is it to get your sister on a song?’

We want to believe that something is in the works, especially now that both sisters are established singers.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Niniola spoke about her relationship with Teni, stating how she is proud of her growth in the music industry.

“Teni is my baby sister and her success makes me proud. That is my baby doing good and I am very happy for her. That is how a big sister should feel. As a big sister, we talk every day as opposed to what some people think. Apart from music, we are blood sisters.”

While both sisters haven’t publicly stated anything about a collaboration, it is something lots of fans are looking forward to.

Tems and Ayra Starr

On the radar of the hot female singers at the moment, these two superstars sit pretty at the top. It is safe to say that their incredible vocals and badass songs earn them that spot, and their hard work and resilience will keep them there for a long time.

However, it is not uncommon for fans to do a comparison game between two artists as we’ve seen that play out in several situations. The Tems and Ayra Starr comparison have been flying around and we don’t know what to think about it other than just sit back and enjoy the gems from both artists.

Speaking about the comparison, Ayra Starr stated that she sees it as a compliment to be compared to Tems while also confirming she feels Tems is an amazing musician.

“I don’t know, it’s a compliment to me though, because I’m a young artist and Tems is an amazing musician. I just released music weeks ago, and for people to even compare me to such an amazing musician is such a compliment, and I’m so grateful and honored.”

With this kind of admiration and professional courtesy for each other, we wonder what it would be like to see the two song stars work together on a song.

Great vocals, and some bad girl vibe type of music will give a refreshing feel.

Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage

There is no way you talk about successful female musicians in the Nigerian music industry and won’t mention these two. Hit songs, they’ve done it. Awards, they’ve been there. But just one collaboration from them is what we are asking for.

For them, it’s a battle of queens. Both singers’ fan bases have always taken sides, comparing their success and thereby creating this ‘cat and dog’ relationship between them. This is most likely one of the reasons it might be hard to get both singers together on a song.

While reacting to the possibility of a collaboration with Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade stated her fear which was being unsure of the outcome of the song.

“When we do music, we do it so people can be happy, so when we do a song together, what are we fueling? What are we encouraging? That’s the most important question when I do collaborations, there is an aim. I think what would be would be.”

Regardless of what their fans have to say, this is still one of the top collaborations we look forward to seeing.

Asa and Simi

Looking from a place of deep admiration and respect, this is one collaboration that might happen soon, simply because there is no form of rivalry at all. At least, Simi squashed it when her fans wanted to start it.

Cautioning a fan from comparing her to Asa, Simi had expressed how she feels about the Nigerian-French singer.

“Asa opened the door to be able to do things that are outside the box. There was a mainstream sound, which is changing. So listening to her made me feel like I could do anything.”

Both singers have been known to be reserved with their work and have a different feel to it. Seeing them come together and match that magic would be incredible.

Conclusion

The Nigerian music industry is moving at a fast pace, with new development and sounds changing lots of things. We believe that the female singers are still not totally up to speed and collaborations amongst themselves can boost the long walk to world dominance for them.
