A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered indigenous energy firm, Seplat Energy Plc, to hold its Annual General Meeting.
This was revealed in a document signed by its Board Chairman, Basil Omiyi, on Tuesday and obtained by The PUNCH.
The order was given as judgement in Suit number FHC/ABJ/PET/7/2023 – Akinnifesi & Adelaja V. Seplat Energy Plc.
“Seplat Energy, therefore, states that, in due compliance with the Law and the Judgment, its AGM will hold on 10th May 2023, as expressly ordered by the Federal High Court of Nigeria.”
It added that “the judgment further restrains any current or former directors, shareholders, and officers of the company from cancelling or postponing the AGM as announced to the public.”
The PUNCH reports that a legal practitioner, Hyginus Nnubia, who is one of the shareholders of Seplat Energy Plc, had filed a suit against the company before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over its alleged refusal to hold the 2023 Annual General Meeting.
Nnubia, in his originating summons in the suit marked FHC/L/CS/484/2023, is asking the court for an order mandating the defendant to hold its 2023 AGM in May 2023, or any other time within the time permitted by the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 20720.
