Love & Seclusion is the latest winner of the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music, and Theatre.

The movie stands out as the only African recipient and one of the four feature films selected in this year’s fiction category out of 1,103 applications.

On this commendable achievement, the writer and executive producer, Clementina Ojie, said, “I’m thrilled and humbled to be named a recipient of the 2023 NYC Women’s Fund. Not only is it an honour to be among the talented women creators and artists awarded the finishing grant, but I’m also thankful to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for believing in me and helping me complete this project.”

Facilitated by the New York Foundation for the Arts, the grant was created to address the underrepresentation of women and women-identifying artists in film, television, theatre, and music.

Directed by the award-winning Orire Nwani, and produced by the fast-rising Josh Olaoluwa, Love & Seclusion is set during the pandemic.

The film follows a young, desperate Lagos wife, Tola, who seizes the opportunity to get pregnant with her husband, who has yet to tell her that he has no intentions of having children.

Starring Efa Iwara and Tope Olowoniyan in leading roles, the cast includes Inem King, Olanrewaju Ayanwale, Jaybo Charles, Anthonia Okojie and Odiah Emmanuel.
