Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest before death

  • In response to the devastating news of the passing of one of their esteemed members, Mr. Ibu, the AGN President, Emeka Rollas, has issued a heartfelt statement.
  • Emeka Rollas confirmed that Mr. Ibu’s untimely demise was preceded by a sudden cardiac arrest, intensifying the wave of sorrow that now engulfs the entertainment community.

Emeka Rollas, the national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), confirmed Ibu’s passing in an Instagram post on Saturday, wherein he also announced the death of actress Kate Henshaw’s mother.

In his statement, Emeka Rollas said that Ibu’s manager Don Single Nwuzor revealed that the actor suffered a cardiac arrest before he eventually died.

He wrote:

Sad Day for Actors Guild of Nigeria. Kate Henshaw lost her mother earlier today and Mr lbu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager for 24 years Mr Don Single Nwuzor.

“I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace.”

The actor reportedly passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos State after a protracted battle with illness.

Recall that the 62-year old had battled health issues that led to the amputation of one of his legs.

He was diagnosed with diseased blood vessels.

His family had solicited funds from Nigerians, saying the actor “had constant clotting of the blood in his leg [diseased blood vessels] and other health challenges posing a risk to his life, therefore the need for the amputation.”

The amputation became necessary because of an infection of the arteries at the ankle that was not detected early enough.

Meanwhile, celebrities and colleagues of the Nollywood veteran have mourned Mr. Ibu in various social media posts.

The 62-year-old actor delved into acting ina the early 2000s but rose to fame for his role in the movie ‘Mr Ibu,’ which was released in 2004.

He also featured in a plethora of movies such as ‘Coffin Producers’, ‘Husband Suppliers’, ‘International Players’, ‘Mr.Ibu in London’ and ‘Police Recruit’

Ibu was well known for his comedic roles which earned him several nominations and awards.
