Up-and-coming Nigerian artist, Oluwabamishe Abioro, widely known as Young Duu, has brought to light a dispute with skit maker, Joseph Oderhohwvo, alias Carter Efe, regarding unpaid debt.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, Young Duu, formerly signed under singer Portable, disclosed that he hadn’t received any compensation for his single “Oyinmo,” a collaborative project with Carter Efe.

The 20-year-old artist accused Carter of appropriating his work and withholding rightful credit. Despite Carter’s assertion that he had given Young Duu 30% of the project’s earnings, equivalent to N500,000, the singer maintained that he hadn’t received any payment for “Oyinmo.”

Young Duu expressed his disappointment with how Carter Efe treated him and clarified that his motive for airing the issue on social media was to correct misconceptions. He highlighted feeling disrespected by Carter’s dismissive attitude towards him.

Young Duu noted that he is saying this because a lot of people thought he’s rich.

The artist clarified that he harboured no ill will towards Carter Efe and chose to address the matter publicly after efforts to communicate peacefully with Carter failed.

He said:

“After recording and shooting the video for the song, I did not hear from him again. A few months passed before I reached out to him. He asked for my account number, claiming he would give me N500,000.”

“To date, he has not given me the money, and he has not taken me to any show. The reason I raised alarm on the matter online is that everyone thinks I’m a millionaire.”

“Whenever I reached out to Carter, how he responded was like I’m a nobody. That was why I raised the alarm online on the matter because I felt like a fool. People would not understand. They would be thinking that I’m a stingy person”.
