  • In an incendiary series of audio recordings and a viral exposé, a US-based Nigerian woman has unleashed scathing scam allegations against the Ooni of Ife, claiming the revered monarch swindled her out of a staggering $180,000.
  • The accusations have ignited a firestorm, prompting the Ooni, through his spokesperson, to vehemently denounce the claims.
  • He didn’t just stop at expressing fury; his spokesperson delved deep into the scandal, providing a detailed rebuttal in an attempt to clear the monarch’s name amidst the raging controversy.

Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has categorically dismissed a sensational report accusing him of scamming a US-based lady out of a jaw-dropping $180,000.

The scandal erupted when a popular blogger took to X, claiming the revered monarch received the hefty sum from an Osun-born woman identified as Fagbule in a supposed marriage scam.

The post laced with voicenote further alleged that the traditional ruler had a close relationship with the victim, an Ile-Ife indigene, who reportedly aimed to organize free medical services for women and children in her hometown, but ended up being conned.

In a furious response shared on Facebook by Moses Olafare, the Ooni’s spokesperson, Ogunwusi slammed the allegations as “fake, untrue, and absolutely unfounded.”

That the news as posted by a Twitter (now X) handle called “99% OPPRESSED” is fake, untrue, and absolutely an unfounded allegation only adopted as a nugatory character assassination tactic aimed at achieving a cheap popularity with a view to drawing huge followers/traffic for avaricious monetization from Twitter (X)”

The Ooni criticized Fagbule for her approach, suggesting that instead of running to social media, she should have taken her grievances to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the proper authorities to handle such serious matters.
