Breonna Taylor’s family has still not been made whole following her unwarranted death at the hands of several Louisville Metro Police Department officers, including fired officer Brett Hankison. Hankison was previously charged with two counts of deprivation of rights but was let off the hook when a jury told the judge that they could not reach a unanimous decision resulting in a mistrial.

Of all the shots fired in the direction of Taylor and her boyfriend Kenneth Walker, Hankison is said to have fired 10 of them. Three of those reportedly went into the adjoining apartment where a woman, her 5-year-old child, and a man were living. None of the rounds struck the trio.

According to the Courier-Journal, Hankison is set to face those charges for a second time and the prosecutors are looking to ensure his conviction with some new testimony as evidence against him. U.S. District Court Western District of Kentucky began hearing the case this past Tuesday and it is expected to take roughly three weeks to adjudicate.

In court records, prosecutors outline two occasions during which they say he “endangered his fellow officers and civilians” and breached LMPD protocols. Hankison should have known his actions during the Taylor raid were unacceptable since he had been admonished for similar actions in the past, prosecutors argued.

No ruling has been made on whether or not this evidence will be allowed to be admitted.
