Speed Darlington denied bail – Deji Adeyanju gives update

  • Deji Adeyanju has given an update on the bail bond process for Speed Darlington.
  • The singer was reportedly arrested on Tuesday night during his show in Owerri.
  • In a latest post, the lawyer revealed Darlington was denied bail by the police.

Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju says his efforts to get singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington bailed from the custody of the Nigeria Police Force was unsuccessful.

WITHIN NIGERIA reported on Wednesday morning, November 28 that the singer was rearrested on Tuesday night during his show in Owerri, the Imo State capital for allegedly cyberstalking his colleague, Damini Ogulu, alias Burna Boy.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju announced the latest arrest on Wednesday morning via a post on his official microblogging X page. He wrote:

“Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria”.

In another tweet, Deji linked Speed Darlington’s rearrest to Burna Boy. The activist-turned-lawyer also berated the Grammy award winner for his action. He wrote:

“Burna Boy behind harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has being singing against oppression and forming junior Fela now oppressing Akpi.”

In an update shared on his official Facebook and X pages on Wednesday night, his lawyer, Adeyanju said the police refused to release the singer on bail. He wrote:

“The Nigerian police brought our client Speed Darlington to Abuja from Owerri this evening and I just met him.

“They have refused to release him on bail over defamation of Burna Boy. Burna Boy, the Ojuelegba Fela sings about oppression but oppresses Akpi with the police”.

Speed Darlington also known as Akpi, was earlier arrested on October 4, following the release of a contentious video in which he allegedly mocked his colleague, Burna Boy’s association with American rapper Diddy, who has faced legal issues with the FBI over charges of sexual exploitation.

The outspoken Nigerian singer was, however, released on bail on October 9 after spending five days in detention.
