Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Gaise Baba, has opened up about his personal struggles with addiction and the difficult journey he faced before fame finally found him.
In a revealing interview with Chude Jidenowo, the No Turning Back singer shared that he and his wife, Funto, got married as virgins, but it wasn’t without a fight. He said:
“Yes, I married as a virgin. I and my wife. But it took more time, sir, before we find the way.”
Gaise Baba revealed that he was exposed to explicit content at the age of 15 and soon became addicted to pornography, despite having made a covenant of purity with God. He added:
“I just scribbled something. I signed it, went to meet the pastor. I’m like, my covenant of purity. In fact, it was shortly after that I got addicted.”
The singer said that five years ago, after 13 years as a professional artiste and three years after he believed he had received a word from God, he nearly gave up on music entirely. He confessed to approaching his mentor and saying, “I can’t do this anymore like this; I’m going to get a corporate job.”

But according to him, God sent his wife, Funto, to encourage him to keep going. He added that last year, several prophetic words began to come that an explosion was about to happen in his life. By that time, he had already learned not to doubt God’s promises.
In a bittersweet twist, two weeks before his hit song “No Turning Back” went viral, Gaise Baba lost his mother. He said she called him shortly before her death to tell him he was a special son and that his mission was about to take over the world.
“She went to heaven and told the angels to get moving,” he said, half-joking, half-serious.
Since the release of No Turning Back featuring Lawrence Oyor, Gaise Baba’s influence in the gospel space has grown massively, with the song becoming a healing anthem for many.
His story has touched hearts across social media, a reminder that delay isn’t denial, and that purpose can rise from even the lowest points.
