Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa over the weekend, found herself at the center of an ugly social media storm after a blogger falsely included her in a list of celebrities alleged to be HIV-positive. The actress wasted no time in setting the record straight and dragging the blogger along with it.
“In 2019, I took an HIV test and proudly shared my negative result on social media to encourage others to know their status and stay safe,” Amusa reminded the public in her fiery clapback.
According to her, the malicious list was not only false but a calculated attempt to tarnish her image and reputation. She continued:
“Just 24 hours ago, a blogger maliciously included my name in a false list of HIV-positive individuals. This was clearly an attempt to defame me and damage my image, without any regard for my family, friends, or fans.”
The backlash was swift. Fans rallied around the actress, condemning the publication for its recklessness and insensitivity, especially on such a deeply personal and stigmatized topic.
Dayo Amusa revealed that legal action is already underway to ensure the blogger pays for the emotional and reputational damage caused. She added:
“The blogger is currently facing the consequences of his actions. And I will ensure he is held fully accountable.”
“To all my fans, what you saw was entirely false.
“I remain HIV negative, and I stand by the truth I shared back in 2019.”
In response, content creator Segun, in a seeming half-hearted explanation, claimed the error was the fault of a new assistant. He said:
“It was the new assistant I hired recently that gave me the list of the celebrities that have HIV. I never said Dayo Amusa had HIV. I said she publicly discussed her HIV status. I didn’t even know who Dayo Amusa was… it was an honest mistake that I have apologized for and I took down the video.”
