Controversial outspoken critic, Martins Vincent Otse, aka Verydarkman (VDM) has responded defiantly to an alleged threat warning him against visiting Edo State, following his recent criticism of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The threats followed his public reaction to Governor Okpebholo’s recent controversial statement about Peter Obi, and the viral mockery surrounding an alleged WAEC result posted by blogger Tunde Ednut.

The heated exchange began after Governor Okpebholo made headlines for asserting that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, must seek his permission before visiting Edo State.

The statement was widely condemned as undemocratic and triggered massive backlash across social media. Among those who reacted strongly was Verydarkman, a critic of political hypocrisy. In a fiery Instagram video, he accused Okpebholo of arrogance, insecurity, and poor leadership instincts, argued that a democratically elected governor should never attempt to gatekeep access to an entire state.

Amplifying the trend, celebrity blogger Tunde Ednut also shared a post highlighting an alleged secondary school result linked to Governor Okpebholo..

Speaking on the threats via his Instagram page on Monday July 21 2025, Verydarkman, bonafide indigene of Edo, took to Instagram with a fiery video message.

He revealed that following his commentary, he received a call from a notable Okpebholo supporter warning him not to step foot in Edo again for siding with “outsiders” like Tunde Ednut and those criticizing the governor.

Verydarkman declared that no politician or supporter can stop him from entering Edo, citing his deep ancestral roots in the state. He proudly revealed that his grandfather was a pioneer of education in Edo, having built Otse Primary School in 1945, which he claimed was the state’s first school.

VDM also clarified that his commentary was not politically motivated but stemmed from his consistent stance on accountability and freedom of speech. He condemned attempts to silence criticism with threats and vowed to continue exposing double standards and abuse of power by public officials.
