Alex Fevola sheds light on the tragedy that left her as a single parent with her daughter Mia

Alex Fevola has opened up for the very first time about the devastating circumstances that led her to become a single mother.

The WAG, whose partner is AFL great Brendan Fevola, revealed in her new book Silver Linings that her oldest daughter Mia, 22, was almost left an orphan after the tragic death of her father and her mother’s ‘health emergency’.

‘I was 22, I was Mia’s age now when I had her,’ Alex, 44, told The Herald Sun on Saturday, while discussing her new book, Silver Linings.

‘I’ve never spoken about this. The same day (her father) died I was struck down with a health emergency so I actually nearly died.’

Alex reflected on the horrible events, saying, ‘I’ve had something so terrible happen but on the very same day I nearly died myself and Mia was nearly left without parents’.

Alex had kept a life journal since the age of 20 and added entries during the recovery process and struggles she subsequently went through as a single mother.

She recalled at the time she felt she could ‘never be happy again’ and was ‘never going to come out of the darkness’.

‘That was why back then once I got back on my feet and got my life back together I did decide to write about it,’ she continued.

‘There was no social media back then and there was no way of connecting or reading about someone else’s story.’

Alex eventually made the decision two years ago to go through the process of re-writing and editing the book with the hopes of putting it out into the world.

She has described the book as a deeply ‘personal story’ that she hopes others can relate to and find solace in the fact they’re ‘not alone’.

‘For me to relate, ending up a single parent, all the stuff I went through, hopefully it’ll help others and explain our situation a bit more,’ she added.
