He’s an up-and-coming tennis star himself, and Cruz Hewitt was on hand to watch his famous dad Lleyton Hewitt coach a practice session in Sydney on Wednesday.

The 13-year-old sat in the umpire chair and watched on as Lleyton put Alex de Minaur through his paces ahead of next month’s ATP Cup in Sydney.

Lleyton, 40, appeared laser-focused as he watched the practice session at Ken Rosewall Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, hugging a tennis racket to his chest.

The former world number one tennis champion took a brief break to converse with his teenage son, who watched on intently.

At one stage, Cruz descended the umpire’s chair to stand alongside his dad courtside, with both lost in concentration.

Both Lleyton and Cruz wore matching ensembles, with both stepping out in black sports shorts and graphic white T-shirts.

Cruz also donned a white Nike branded baseball cap, white sports socks and blue sneakers.

Lleyton has previously spoken about his high hopes for Cruz’s tennis career, believing he’ll be playing in the Australian Open by the time he’s 14.

He’s also said he hopes his son goes even further than he did during his stellar tennis career, which spanned 18 years.

‘Hopefully he gets a chance to play in this great event [the Australian Open] if he wants to. Hopefully he beats me,’ Lleyton said during the Australian Open in January 2019, as reported by Woman’s Day

Cruz has already won several junior championships, having first picked up a tennis racket as a toddler.
