Demi Lovato holds ‘funeral’ for their pop music, going punk rock

Demi Lovato hosted a “funeral” for their pop music career and announced they’re going punk rock.

Lovato, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, posted a photo Thursday night giving the middle finger alongside a group of people, including her manager, Scooter Braun.

“A funeral for my pop music,” they wrote in the caption.

The “Confident” singer also posted multiple Stories teasing their new sound.

“You put out whatever music you want whenever you want to, break the rules,” one of Braun’s colleagues told them, and they excitedly screamed at the end.

Lovato shared two of a man editing what looks to be a new song that included the lyrics, “Get your tickets to the freak show baby, step right up to watch the freak go crazy.”

The singer’s new sound comes after what appears to be a total rebrand. Earlier this month, Lovato swiped their entire Instagram feed clean and started over with a pic of their new clean buzzcut. Shortly afterwards, they also showed off a large tattoo of a spider on the side of their head and later an industrial piercing alongside the ink.

“It was Grandmother Spider who taught us many things,” the artist previously wrote in a post.

Prior to the appearance changes and Instagram redo, Page Six broke the news that Lovato quietly completed another rehab stint in December, three years after their near-fatal overdose.

Lovato returned from a Utah facility and was “doing well,” a source told us earlier this month. The insider didn’t specify why they sought treatment, but the singer previously told fans that “California sober” was no longer working for them.
