Kate Winslet reveals she 'couldn't stop crying' when reuniting with Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet has revealed she ‘couldn’t stop crying’ when she reunited with her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate, 46, and Leonardo, 47, who have known each other since their early 20s after working on the 1997 film, hadn’t seen each other for three years due to the pandemic.

They met up while they were both in Los Angeles and Kate told The Guardian of that moment: ‘I couldn’t stop crying. I’ve known him for half of my life. It’s not as if I’ve found myself in New York or he’s been in London and there’s been a chance to have dinner or grab a coffee and have a catch-up.’

She added: ‘We haven’t been able to leave our countries. Like so many friendships globally, we’ve missed each other because of COVID. He’s my friend, my really close friend. We’re bonded for life.’

Kate also discussed her Emmy-winning lead role in The Mare of Easttown star as she admitted she was unsure if there would be a second season.

She did note, however, that if she were to reprise the role then ‘for sure these atrocities which have existed in the police force here and in America will find their way into the stories we tell.

‘You can’t pretend these things haven’t happened. It’s horrible, isn’t it? This moment in time. It’s horrific.’

In October, Kate admitted she had had ‘conversations’ about a potential second season of HBO’s Mare of Easttown.

She said: ‘I honestly don’t have a clear answer. I mean, there have been conversations about it, of course, because of the success of the show really did surprise us.’

The seven-episode series followed small town Pennsylvania police detective Mare investigating reports of multiple missing young women as she battled her own personal problems.

Kate recently earned herself a Golden Globes nod in the Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for the role.

The star also took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

The series took home three awards on the night, with Julianne Nicholson also scooping a gong for Outstanding Supporting Actress, while Evan Peters got best Support Actor for his role Detective Colin Zabel.
