Laura Henshaw shares candid post about infertility and the pressure to have children

Laura Henshaw has revealed the one question she’s tired of hearing about is being asked when she’s going to fall pregnant.

The fitness guru, who recently got married to her partner Dalton Graham last November, made the admission in a post to her Instagram on Friday.

‘I get asked this often and I just wanted to share a gentle reminder of why I don’t ever ask this question to anyone anymore,’ Laura, 28, began in a series of slides with written text.

The Keep It Cleaner co-founder pointed out issues women face with infertility, the constant worry she has about her ‘fertile window’ and the decision not to have children.

‘If we want to have children, doesn’t mean we can,’ she continued. ‘Infertility is sadly much more common than you would ever think.’

Laura contrasted how there’s a ‘fear’ of getting pregnant at a younger age with a ‘100%’ certainty you’ll fall pregnant when you’re older but then, when you get to your twenties, there’s ‘not a 100% chance’ of falling pregnant.

‘We still have to consider at an age we still feel ready what our plans will be, as there’s a specific fertile window.’

Laura then questioned her own fertility and says it’s something she worries and ‘thinks about often’.

‘What if I wait too long and miss the window? And then I wish I started earlier.’

‘I hope to have children, but I don’t know how fertile I am – I will have to wait and see,’ she added.

The fitness influencer then shed light on the decision to not have children.

‘There is so much societal pressure to follow a certain path in life – finish school, go to uni, get married, have kids etc. The most beautiful thing about your own life, is that you get to choose.’

She concluded the post: ‘I think when people assume, it makes it hard on those who don’t feel like children are on their path.’
