The reason for the omission of the global pandemic in the realm of the fictional Emily in Paris is because it brings views ‘a sense of escapism’ to views,’ Lily said at the season two screening in LA.
Lily said during the premiere, which took place at the West Hollywood Edition Hotel: ‘Season 1 allowed us an escapism when it came out that it felt it was something that needed to continue – not addressing it because it brings a sense of escapism and joy and laughter in a time that we need it the most.’
Season one of the series was filmed toward end the end of 2019, months before the global COVID-19 pandemic began.
However, season two was filmed during summer 2020, in the midst of the pandemic; the producers decided to leave the pandemic out of the fictional story.
Both seasons were filmed entirely in Paris or across France.
Much-anticipated: Just days earlier, the show’s star Lily revealed that COVID-19 doesn’t exist on the show, in an interview with Variety
Filming during the pandemic had its obstacles, Lily revealed to Variety reporter Marc Malkin, explaining that making sure people were not seen wearing a mask was important.
‘Shooting a show in a city that is highly populated where people are wearing masks, yet we’re shooting in a world that doesn’t exist with COVID – so it’s making sure that when we’re rolling the masks are off and when we stop rolling they come back on,’ the actress explained.
Adding: ‘There were a couple of times when they started shooting and I was like, “Wait, half the people in the scene are still wearing masks.”‘

Last month, Lily also revealed what she wanted to take from the set, but said the show’s producers wouldn’t let her bring anything home.
Collins opens in up a wide-ranging interview with Vogue Australia where she reveals what items she wished they let her keep.
‘I didn’t keep anything this season. Believe me, I’ve asked,’ Collins said in the interview.
She said that towards the end of this new season, she wears some ‘epic dresses’ which she wishes the other producers let her keep.
Collins spent four months in Paris filming the second season, with her co-star Ashley Park, who plays Mindy Chen on the show, revealing they were constantly recognised by fans, who said they were recognised by a lot of men.

‘Not even by teenage girls. I can’t tell you how many middle-aged men came up to us, like “Oh, it’s you guys!”‘ Park says with a laugh.
‘Especially when the two of us are together. I don’t even think we’re that loud, but I guess we really do sound like ourselves!’ Park added.
Collins, the daughter of musician Phil Collins and Jill Tavelman, learned French as a child, though her character is still learning the language.
‘It was really hard in season one to separate learning and figuring out who this character is and be such a foreigner, whereas I understood so much. I had to silence a lot of that and just be Emily most of the time,’ Collins said.
When it came to Emily’s wardrobe, she added, ‘The brightness and boldness and fun and sense of humor Emily has in her wardrobe enhances her personality, especially coming out of Covid where comfort was everything,” Collins reflects.
New show: Season one of Emily in Paris, which was created by Darren Star, premiered on October 2, 2020 on Netflix with 10 episodes
‘Not everything felt super comfortable after Covid, but it was really nice to have fun with fashion again in the most heightened way possible,’ she said.
Lily plays the title character, Emily Cooper, an American who is working in Paris for a year for a marketing firm.
She becomes friends with Mindy Chen (played by Ashley Park) and the very good-looking French chef Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo).
