Ortom tasks FG on military onslaught as more IDPs flood Makurdi camp

As bloodthirsty men suspected to be bandits continue to wreak havoc in parts of Benue State, many residents have continued to troop into the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp across the State.

DAILY POST recalls that the State Governor, Samuel Ortom had recently revealed that over 1.5 million citizens have been sacked from their ancestral homes following incessant attacks in several communities by the assailants.

The Chairman of Tse Yandev camp located in Makurdi, the state capital, Yev Gabriel told newsmen that the camp has continued to receive fresh displaced persons on a daily basis.

Mr Gabriel, who lamented the development, said that the major sickness being recorded in the camp is malaria, saying that over 200 of the inmates have been treated for malaria in the last few days.

Meanwhile, Governor Ortom on Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to extend its ongoing onslaught against bandits in the North West to the North Central geopolitical region to end the security crisis in his state and others.

The governor made the call on Tuesday at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi when he received members of the Niger Delta Bishop’s Voice and Minister’s Forum, NDBVAMF, who paid him a courtesy visit.

He noted that the raiding of bandits’ hideout in Zamfara and other parts of the North Western States by security agents should be extended to the North Central in order to flush out the bandits for peace to return to the region.

DAILY POST reports that security operatives are currently unleashing offensives against the criminal elements in Zamfara State as many bandits have been killed while others escape to neighbouring states.
