Paris Hilton celebrates ‘fighter’ Britney Spears in Time 100 essay

After bravely making her voice heard this summer in her conservatorship case, Britney Spears landed a spot on the 2021 Time 100 Most Influential People list.

Spears’ longtime friend Paris Hilton honored the pop star, 39, with a personal essay published Wednesday about resilience and the fan-led #FreeBritney movement.

“When most people think of Britney Spears, they think of Britney the superstar. She’s iconic. A legend. One of the most influential artists in pop-music history,” Hilton, 40, wrote.

“When I think of Britney Spears, I see the sweetest soul. A mother. A friend. A fighter. A young woman who grew up in the tabloid culture of the 2000s, when the paparazzi machine was accepted, unforgiving and cruel.”

The “Simple Life” alum noted that while the world watched Spears break records with her many hits, including “Toxic” and “…Baby One More Time,” the Grammy winner was privately dealing with “more than a decade of trauma and abuse from her conservatorship,” which has controlled her personal affairs and money since February 2008.

“In 2021, the battle cries of #FreeBritney roared louder than ever from her global network of devoted fans and a concerned public. Our hearts broke when Britney spoke about her pain,” Hilton continued, referencing Spears’ court testimonies in June and July in which she tearfully begged for the legal arrangement to finally come to an end.

“Despite the that has surrounded her life, Britney embodies joy and shares the light of her beautiful heart, forever the superstar,” the hotel heiress continued. “So we stand by her and root for her as she turns pain into purpose, her unwavering spirit stronger than ever.”

Recently, Spears has had a lot to celebrate. Her estranged father, Jamie Spears, filed a petition on Sept. 7 to terminate her conservatorship, a move that the singer’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, called “a massive legal victory.”

Britney also got engaged Sunday to her boyfriend of nearly five years, Sam Asghari, after telling the court in June that she wanted to get married and have more children.

She already shares sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
